Learn More About External SSDs

SSD Module: The heart of the external SSD is the SSD module, which contains the NAND flash memory where data is stored, along with a controller that manages data operations.

Enclosure: The SSD module is housed inside an enclosure or casing that protects it from physical damage. It may also act as a heat sink, helping to dissipate heat generated by the SSD during operation.

Data Transfer Ports: The external SSD connects to your computer or other device via ports that are designed for USB or Thunderbolt protocols — occassionally both.

Power Delivery: Typically, external SSDs need a dedicated power supply due to their larger size, higher performance, or additional features.

Drive Tray: Some external SSDs have multiple SSD modules inside, which can be customized to support different RAID configurations.

Disclosures
1. Speeds vary by product and capacity. 1MB/s = 1 million bytes per second. Based on internal testing; performance may vary depending upon host device, usage conditions, drive capacity, and other factors.
2. Applies only to SanDisk Professional PRO-BLADE STATION.
3. Endurance rating varies by product. For G-DRIVE PRO STUDIO SSD: Endurance rating based on DW/D using 4KiB random write workload over five years. (7.68TB x 0.8 DWPD x 365 Days x 5 years = 11,212.8).
4. 1GB = 1 billion bytes and 1TB = 1 trillion bytes. Actual user capacity may be less depending on operating environment and RAID configuration (if applicable).
5. Applies only to SanDisk Professional G-RAID SHUTTLE SSD.
